I need to produce an animation for this project, and all the work I will be doing in future will be of a similar scale.Google SketchUp is a very popular,CAD style appliction. It is free but only Windows and Mac packages provided. This simple tutorial shows how to install Google SketchUp using Wine for Ubuntu user.ġ.First of all, install wine or upgrade you wine to the latest version. It is best to have at least 1.1.11 of wine. I haven't yet tried polygon cruncher, but I get the feeling that it wont help much with models on this scale (especially considering I originally modelled with efficiency in mind). Sometimes it wont even open, sometimes it crashes while rendering, and sometimes just when navigating. And I haven't even put in trees or any other scale elements yet :( The Artlantis file, however, is huge (495mb) and crashes randomly.

Even so, the sketchup model itself lags on my machine (and I happen to have a pretty good machine that the company bought specifically for renders and animations). I only modelled the facades as I will have other models for interior shots. I think I modelled the sketchup model fairly efficiently as it is only 5,1mb (plenty of groups and components). I modeled the site flat (without contours) but with level differences for street and pavement. I have a scene with 239 three storey buildings for high density housing. I seem to be having the same problem as Jonathan. Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent : 11:18:15 But handling will be much more complicated and rendertimes will be about 10 times higher. If you can't reduce your scene I think the only program I know which is running with these large amounts of polygons and this even in 32bit is Vue. Low-poly for far away and high-poly for close ups. That's why I usually have two type of objects to be used. You will always have to take care about the number of polygons.

I think it doesn't matter what render software you use. All other things have to be added in ATL on separate layers. Usually I would say the best workflow to built up a large scene like you did will be to model only the architecture in CAD and import to ATL. Polygoncruncher only handles larger scenes in 64bit version and to be honest I never tried crunching a whole scene because this might cause further problems with textures, etc. The program you tried "Polygoncruncher" is the same program I use now for more than one year and for me it works absolutely fine.īut I think it's the same problem like using ATL. I followed this thread a little but I think Simon already said all what I can say. Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent : 08:43:29 For example in your killer big view do you need all the interiors in your buildings could you hide them on a layer ? Good luck. I am not too familiar with your project but i think now you will have to try and think laterally.

SKETCHUP KEEPS CRASHING BRIGHTER 3D 64 BIT

Try to use low poly trees & cars if you are showing the whole site at range they will still look good.Did you try the 64 bit version ? To be honest i never use the 32 bit only for opening and saving out sketchup files it just doesn't handle large geometry well. Of course if you want the masterplan showing everything your still in trouble. I think you should be creative with layers so you can hide what is not showing in each view. If your scene contains multiple similar buildings making an object and copying it may help. I am not aware of artlantis being able to make the polygons lighter. I remember before 1 million was considered the limit for the 32 bit version. 6 million is getting kind of high Jonathan. Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent : 06:21:50
